Find out exactly how many days have passed since any date — birthdays, events, milestones, or any moment in history.
Sometimes you want to know how long ago something happened — not how long until something is coming. This calculator tells you exactly how many days have elapsed since any past date, from yesterday to decades ago. Enter a date and get the answer instantly, in days, weeks, months, and working days.
To calculate how many days have passed since a specific date, subtract that date from today. For example, from 1 January 2025 to today (27 February 2026) is 422 days. Our calculator does this instantly for any date you enter, and updates automatically every day so the count is always current.
The calculation is the same as any date difference — you subtract the earlier date from the later one. The only thing distinctive about a "days since" calculation is that one of the dates is always today, so the result increases by exactly one every morning.
This makes it useful for tracking anything that runs continuously from a fixed starting point: how many days you've been sober, how many days since a diagnosis, how many days a streak has been running, or simply how long ago a memorable event happened.
Subtract the past date from today's date. The result is the exact number of days that have elapsed. Our calculator does this automatically — enter any past date and it shows the count instantly, updating every day.
Enter the date the event occurred into our calculator. It subtracts that date from today and returns the number of days, weeks, months, and working days that have passed since then.
By default, the calculator counts up to but not including today — so if you enter yesterday's date, the result is 1 day. This is the standard exclusive convention. The count increases by 1 each day at midnight.
The most common uses for a days-since calculator are: tracking personal streaks (sobriety, fitness, habits), measuring elapsed time in health or medical contexts (days since surgery, diagnosis, or last episode), legal and HR timelines (days since a notice was served), and curiosity about historical events.
Whether you're tracking days sober, days into a fitness challenge, days since you quit smoking, or days into a new habit — a running day count is one of the most effective motivational tools. Enter the date you started and watch the number grow.
Days since a surgery, a diagnosis, a last seizure, a last migraine, or a last treatment. Medical timelines often matter for follow-ups, medication schedules, and monitoring recovery windows. A precise day count removes any ambiguity.
Notice periods, probation periods, contract start dates, and filing deadlines all run from a specific starting date. Knowing the exact number of days elapsed — including working days — helps confirm whether a deadline has been met or is approaching.
How many days since you met someone, got married, moved to a new city, or started a new job. These aren't just sentimental — they're sometimes needed for practical reasons like visa applications, tenancy agreements, or insurance.
How many days since the moon landing? Since 9/11? Since a favourite album was released? History looks different measured in days.

Days since measures elapsed time from a past date to today. Days until measures remaining time from today to a future date. Both use exactly the same calculation — just in opposite directions. Use this page for past events; use our countdown pages or the days-between-dates calculator for future ones.
These two query types are mirror images of each other. "How many days since March 1?" and "How many days until March 1 next year?" use identical arithmetic — the only difference is which direction you're counting.
If you're looking for remaining time rather than elapsed time, these pages may be more useful:
Days since counts forward from a past date to today (elapsed time). Days until counts forward from today to a future date (remaining time). The arithmetic is identical — just the reference point differs.
For any two specific dates (both past, both future, or one of each), use our /days-between-dates calculator — it lets you enter both a start and an end date freely. The days-since calculator is specifically for measuring elapsed time from a past date to today.
